It's the most important meal of the day, and even more so now with all the training sessions. Aim to have a mix of low fat protein and carbohydrates. So, tell me what's your best Fitbitch Breakfast?
I've gone porridge crazy. This was my super-delicious treat today:
Cinnamon, anise and cardamom infused porridge with greek yogurt and berries
1c semi-skimmed milk 1 small cinnamon stick 1 cardamom pod 1 star anise 1/2 c organic whole oats 1 tbsp 0% greek yogurt 6 blueberries 2 strawberries, quartered teeeeeeny squeeze agave nectar
Simmer the milk with the spices for 10 mins to infuse. Remove cardamom pod and add porridge. Cook until done, about 8 mins. Remove cinnamon and anise. Top with greek yogurt, a teeny squeeze of agave nectar (<1/8 tsp) and berries.
How's that for GI, Rach? Were the berries a step too far?
I had muesli; in the winter I have porrige, in the summer I mainly have natural low-fat yogurt with honey, dried cranberries, sunflowers & pumpkin seeds. Sometimes I will have a berry smoothie...
I will then spend most of the rest of the day eating chocolates & biscuits in order to hate myself.
I love quinoa - half cup quinoa : cup of half water half apple juice with a stick of cinnamon. Simmer for around 8 mins then add blueberries or raspberries and cover and leave for 15mins. Top with pomegranate seeds - yummy!! It's nice and fresh and I don't feel bloated.

Aleks
Switch the semi-skimmed milk for 1/2 water, 1/2 skimmed milk to bring cals down. Then perfect

Rach, what's the status of the lo-fat yogurt accompaniments? i REALLY miss my dried cranberries/blueberries and seeds/nuts.
ReplyDeleteand my chocolate has been hidden so I don't experience that particular self-loathing that Urban Cynic and I appear to share.
