I'm a Fitbitch for life!

I started training with Rachael on a one to one basis back in January when this 'before' picture was taken. I wanted to get in shape for my summer holiday, nothing more.
Rachael was superfit, fun & assured me that she would take me from a complete exercise novice to someone who would actually look forward to exercising.'Ha, not likely,' I secretly thought. I'd never been sporty & couldn’t imagine exercise ever being anything but a necessary evil to help me lose weight.
After 7 weeks of twice weekly exercise with Rachael, I lost 10lbs & had a great holiday – but realised I wanted to keep going. And I wanted more of a challenge, so I signed up for Rachael's intensive Fitbitch Boot Camp in October 2009.
I loved it right from the start. I couldn’t believe it was me at first – getting up at 6.30 to cycle to Hove Lawns in sun, rain, wind.
Leaving my home in the dark as winter closed in meant freezing cold mornings but we soon warmed up & there were spectacular sunrises, and magnificent sea views – as well as the feeling that I was getting stronger and fitter week by week.
Plus, I met an amazing group of women who all supported & cheered each other on as we puffed & groaned our way through various activities, from circuit training with kettlebells to sprinting & boxing.
Every day was different and I never once felt bored. I ran my first 5k run at Hove Park at the end of October – and kept going throughout November and December even in the deepest snow. I can now do push-ups, love rocking those kettlebells - and I am definitely the skipping queen!
Exercise is now an essential part of my life. It now seems normal to me to run, skip and sprint daily. I’m looking forward to doing my first 10k with my fellow Fitbitches, and then who knows, nothing seems beyond me now.
When I started, I was an 11 stone 10 lbs, a size 16 fifty-something who weighed 11 stone 10lbs and who stopped wearing jeans years ago. Over three Boot Camps my weight dropped steadily by 1 - 2lbs a week (Rachael inspires you to eat healthily – it‘s not a ‘diet’, it’s about not sabotaging your body) and centimetres of fat vanished – a total of 14cm off my lardy ass & 10cm from each thigh. I’m now 9st 12 lbs, size 10 & have just bought my first pair of 29 in waist skinny jeans!
I feel years younger but I also know there have been other significant changes too – which both my sons & close friends have commented on. I can honestly say this has changed my life - I’m more confident, calmer & much happier than the unfit, overweight person that I was and my sons are amazingly proud of me. I’m now a Fitbitch for life!

Fitbitch Success

Those of you familiar with Fitbitch Boot Camp will have read about Belinda Muir's astonishing progress before. Yet it's worth mentioning again because it goes to show the importance of always setting yourself new goals that will keep your figure and fitness constantly adapting.
Forty-eight year old Belinda started at Fitbitch BC in March 2009 weighing 13stone 7lb, unable to run for more than 10minutes. By the end of the first camp she had lost 13lb and was running her first 5k at around 38minutes.
Fast forward less than one year on and Belinda now weighs 10st 4lb, has completed the Brooks 10k and is now in training for her first half marathon. Now 75minute runs are just something she does without thinking. But that's not all - she's already got her sights on doing the South Downs Relay Marathon!

Fitbitch Testimonial

I just wanted to thank you so super much for the great work and fun you've done with Fitbitch Boot Camp. From being someone who has never taken part in sport (even at school i managed to blag my way out of it) I've now taken part in a novice triathlon, 11 mile cross country Hellrun and am setting triathlon/racing goals for 2010!
It really is all down to the excellent training and environment you've created through Fitbitch! I truly truly enjoyed myself, it gave me the stamina to mentally pull myself out of a personal rut and I have found confidence and peace just by hitting the road running. Plus, since finishing boot camp I kept getting compliments on my trim shape even though i never really managed to stick to the eating plan (too much going on elsewhere). So thanks so much!

Fitbitch December 2009

We faced wind, rain and just missed the snow by one day (boo!) but just a week before Christmas our extra large 14 strong boot camp graduated with amazing results. Push ups, kettlebells, 5k runs and sprints were easily achieved by the end of the four weeks. As for weight loss, there were a record number of big losses with one graduate losing 11lbs in four weeks. Congratulations Fitbitches!
Don't forget you can find out more about what Fitbitch Boot Camp is up to via the Facebook site.

Fitbitch Boot Camp Graduates

Saturday 21st November saw a record number of Fitbitches turn out for the Hove Park Run. Sixteen of us raced and over two thirds of us got personal bests. Not surprising considering the work that everyone has put in over the last month in the November boot camp.
Everyone recorded huge successes, both in weight losses with many losing up to a stone in four weeks and more importantly, in fitness success.
We had two runners record personal bests at the Brooks 10k Brighton Run and in camp itself, everyone smashed their fitness tests!
It clearly hasn't put anyone off either with eight out of ten rebooking for the last boot camp before Christmas - that's a sign of a true Fitbitch!

Testimonial

'I signed up to Fitbitch to tone up and lose weight. In just 4 week I lost 8 lbs. I had a great trainer in Rachael and a fitbitch crew who made you want to get out of bed to run through the rain with them on a daily basis. Rachael’s eating plan was easy and I never felt as though I was dieting, just living a healthier lifestyle. After a week I noticed a change in my mood and I had a lot more energy. Thanks to Rachael exercise no longer seems boring. Everyday was different and really fun. Thanks to Fitbitch I have made some great friends and I am healthier for it.'

Fitbitch Testimonials

Since April 2009 I have lost almost 2 stone, dropped three dress sizes and feel so much happier! I have now completed the general level and level 2 boot camps and have seen my body shape change and stamina increase throughout. Now it's completely normal for me to be off running on Hove seafront with fellow fitbitches at 6am, as well as looking forward to 5k parkrun races every Saturday and also am getting ready to run the Brooks Brighton 10k in November. Thanks to Rachael "Queen Fitbitch" and some amazing fitbitch friends who have been present along with me on this journey... I'm a new Steph and SO much happier!! This is a life changing experience for women and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

'I'd recommend this camp to any woman wanting to change their lifestyle. It isn't a military style camp that slaps you into shape. It's an experience that inspires and teaches your body something new every day to help you achieve amazing results.
I've gone from barely being able to run 2miles to 12miles in the space of 4 months. All my old clothes fit me again and I just feel full of confidence. Once you've been FitBitched you just keep coming back for more.
Kim Boucher, 33, camp graduate Oct, November, December, 2010, January 2011.

'I lost 6lbs in my first bootcamp, as well as countless inches. I felt fitter, happier and had more to talk about with my friends, who were captivated by my tales from that morning's bootcamp!
Rachel's professional guidance make it feel like you're getting personal training, and training in the sunrise with new friends just makes you feel fantastic.
I am fitter, thinner and have bags more energy...and I just feel much more confident in all areas of my life.

It's always inspiring to read about previous graduates and how well they're doing so Congratulations to Belinda Muir. The 48-year old make-up artist has lost over three stone since starting boot camp and has just been announced as Brighton&Hove ParkRun winner.

There will be a Fitbitch team there so if you fancy the challenge, enter here or get in touch.

Call asap or email if you are interested in joining the next boot camp.

The Beep Test - Level Two

This morning saw the start of August's Level Two Boot Camp. There were some new faces along with several who have returned for another level 2 session.
And there were two graduates of Level one, Belinda and Steph who have moved up the Fitbitch fitness ladder. If you're reading this, thinking that there's no way you could ever run a race or even want to exercise other than to lose weight Belinda and Steph are proof that you can do anything if you set your mind to it.
Belinda has lost three stone since starting in April and has gone from never having run ANYWHERE to running regular 5km races every Saturday (morning!), along with Steph. Next step? The Brooks 10k.
This morning saw the group complete various fitness tests, including The Beep Test. If the only type of fitness you have ever done was PE at school, then you may never have had the pleasure of coming across the dreaded beep or Bleep test as it is known.
The test is a way of measuring a person's aerobic fitness - or maximum oxygen uptake (V02 max).
The test is made up of 23 levels with each level lasting approximately one minute. Each level comprises of a series of 20m shuttle runs with a starting speed of 8.5km/hr. This increases by 0.5km per hour each stage. So, what's the point of it, if other than to 'psyche' you up for Fitbitch?
You know at Boot camp were never about show or image - everything has a purpose...
With training it is possible to improve your oxygen uptake and the beep test is a simple tool to mark your progress. And in terms of improving your fitness and sports specific goals, it is worth being able to improve your V02 max levels.
Why? During most forms of exercise, the body depends on oxygen to help provide the energy it uses. It is extracted from the air by the lungs and transported via the blood to the working muscles. As intensity increases, there's an increase in the body's demand for oxygen.
But at a certain point, oxygen demand can not satisfy the muscles and the body switches to anaerobic (without oxygen)metabolism. The only disadvantage to this is that the it can only sustain high rates of energy production for a short while. think lactic acid build up - or that burning thigh feeling! Therefore, improve oxygen uptake and you are more likely to avoid the high levels of fatigue that come with anaerobic methods.
Here's your results girls!
Jan - Level 5, Shuttle 6
Maxine - Level 5, Shuttle 8
Thurka - Level 8, Shuttle 7
Belinda - Level 4, shuttle 6
Steph - Level 3, Shuttle 2

Fitbitch Level Two - July

After four weeks in which we've faced rain and sunshine, run around a few clubbers sleeping it off on Hove Lawns, the first Level Two Fitbitch Boot Campees graduated with amazing results.
Sprint times improved by more than a second, and everyone smashed their Beep Test records. And lets not even mention those 'plank offs'!
At this level it's about improving fitness and sports perfomance and the weightloss is just an added side effect. The dress sizes dropped again for all.

On the home straight

After a wet July, we were finally blessed with some dry if not grey weather as we began the last week of Level Two. Here, beneath Brigton's new spectacular renovated bandstand we enjoyed Brigton's Boulders of Doom ...only known to those initiated into the fitness dark arts of Level two. And Thurka shows off her skill on the TRX.

Fitbitch Level One

After four weeks of hard work, Fitbitch Level One faced the ultimate test - they may call it Stairway to Hell. But in Fitbitch parlance it's Stairway to Heavenly Bum & Thighs!
It certainly did the job - everyone in camp dropped a dress size and more impressively two of our graduates completed their first 5k run at Hove Park. A month ago, neither had ever run before even at school. Next stop? The 10k Brooks Run!

Level Two Fitbitch

This Saturday saw some of Level Two Boot Campees attending Hove Park Run (www.hoveparkrun). In this level boot camp, Fitbitches can already run a 5k (click here to read about different levels of Fitbitch Boot Camp http://fitbitchbootcamp.blogspot.com/2009/06/are-you-ready-to-become-super-fitbitch.html) but after two weeks, many have already begun to notice the difference in their fitness and improvements in their times and core strength.
Not surprisingly considering the eight days of assorted training they have already been through - and it's not over yet!
If you're new to Fitbitch Boot Camp, don't be put off though. The General Level is open to all and geared to every fitness level. It's seen every one from a competitive volleyball player to someone who hasn't exercised in a decade - and all of them have come back for more!
Other exciting news this weekend is our mention in The Observer Food Monthly - how exciting!

Fitbitch Academy Two Graduates...

After four weeks of fun, a new batch of Fitbitches have graduated ready to take on the fitness world. With Search & Destroy, Pebble Purgatory, Stairway to Heavenly Bum and Legs and many more FB signature boot camp days, everyone has come through having been transformed. For some it's been weightloss of up to 13lbs, for others it has been going from never having exercised to doing sprint intervals, hill running and boxing ...Well done all you Fitbitches and I will see you next time for Round Two!

Sister Act Part II

Hannah and Belinda celebrate after completing a sprint finish at Hove Park Run. Mind you, they did have the promise of a fantastic Graduation Brekkie to motivate them!
Make up artist Belinda lost 23lbs and 58cms after completing two boot camps, while sister, Hannah, 35, a new mum lost 36.5cms and 9lbs in four weeks.

Sister Act

Today, saw the two sets of sisters who have just graduated from Fitbitch Two run their first Hove www.parkrun.com. As I write, the times haven't been published but they don't need to be to tell how well they did. Not one, not two but all four of them managed to pull off an impressive sprint finish.
All of them have come from vastly different fitness levels - Belinda's a fitness virgin (or was), Hannah's just had a baby and Mel and Jo are returning to fitness but have been transformed during the last four weeks. Well done to you all!

Are you ready to become a Fitbitch?

If you want to get fit, lose weight, tone up and feel generally fantastic, book in for the next Fitbitch Academy starting Tuesday 26th May.
There are three slots to choose from 6.10-7.10am, 7.15am-8.15am or 10.45-11.45am. But hurry as places are filling fast. Book before 1st May for an Early Bird £150, thereafter it will be £180. Read more at posting Sign up to a new you.
I'm also booking for SuperFitBitch Camps in July. These will be for those women who already exercise two to three times a week and how are either training for a sports event or simply want to challenge their existing fitness routines.

who says diets have to be boring?

If you are following the optional part of the Fitbitch Boot Camp experience, don't think it's all about deprivation. Experiment with what you can eat and you'd be surprised at just how much you can eat, rather than the cliched view of a diet meaning just a carrot on a plate.
Try this Lemon Sole with Capers and lemon juice with salad.
For the Lemon sole, simply get a fillet and place in a baking tray with a whole lemon squeezed over it, tomatoes, fresh basil and 1tsp of capers. Roast in an oven around 200degrees for 10-15mins and you're done! Serve with a fresh salad.

Well done Jen!

Six weeks ago, Jen, a 30 year old office worker weighed 13st 2lb at 5ft 10inches. She came to me having just started running but desperate to lose weight and get super fit.
On the first point, you can judge the results by her before and after pictures.
Amazingly, Jen now weighs 11st 5lb, she's increased her muscle mass from 32.7 to 34%, decreased her fat from 32.5 to 28% and lost a staggering 41inches all over her body.
At Fitbitch, we don't believe in starvation diets but in challenging diet habits and redressing imbalances wherever they may lie.
For Jen, it was simply a case of switching from a high carbohydrate diet to a more balanced diet of proteins, carbs and fats and low glycaemic foods - those that release energy slowly.
But Fitbitch isn't just about losing weight, it's about getting fit and being able to put on those running shoes with the confidence that you can run and feel great. And that you're going to enjoy it. And to that end, Jen has gone from running a 10k at 1hr 15 mins to 59 mins. And that's just in six weeks - lord knows how fast she's going to be in six months time!

End of week one first FB Academy

What a fantastic week it's been. Waking up every morning to make a 6.10am boot camp may sound hideous but the reality is different. Really.
Every morning has been beautiful with misty pink skies and a sea so flat you feel like you could walk on it.
We've been running, skipping, throwing balls and even had a secret session in the kiddie's playground near the West Pier.
But next week is another challenge - the basic foundations have been set. Now it's time to start building on it!

How Fitbitch changed my life

"I started a Fitbitch inspired training programme in October 2008, and by the end of the four weeks I'd lost a stone and 12 inches all over my body. It's completely changed my life.
Before, I'd fall in and out of exercise unable to keep a consistent routine, and felt unhappy with my size. But in that one month, I went from a size 16 to a 12 and now I love going to the gym and have even entered my first 10k - and this from someone who thought that they couldn't run! It was just four weeks out of my life but it has been a life changing experience.
